Glacier National Park – Apgar Winter Hike
In the winter you start by hiking a couple of miles in to reach the trailhead for Apgar Lookout. This makes it a bit of an endeavor in the winter, so today we just went for a few miles, more just to get out than anything else. I love tromping through the glittering snow with the crisp air and the sound of water in the background.
The sun made a rare appearance for a couple of hours towards the end of the day highlighting the fresh snowfall and making everything sparkle.
A couple of rivers intersect here and I think it’s looking like a fly-fishing destination for later on this year.
There was a beautiful golden glow on the mountains through this part of our walk.
It is days like today that inspire me to get out even if I only have a few hours. There is something about being out in the mountains with the quietness and beauties of nature, even if it’s for a short time.
You want to make the most of a day, but sometimes getting out for even a partial day is just what I need. It seems that things sometimes get too busy to get out, but it’s always worth it to make the effort to set aside a few hours for ‘mountain time’.
Prints in the snow.
On the way back it was absolutely still and silent. The calm before the storm. The sky was filling with ominous black clouds and the snow was starting to fall in the mountains.
The last golden rays before the darkening clouds close in.
