I’ve been going to the Calgary Farmer’s Market off and on for the last 4 years, and I love it! While we were waiting for our immigration papers to come through, it would go something like this: week 1, Calgary Farmer’s Market – week 2, Whitefish Farmer’s Market (Montana) and so on. Now that we live in one place, I’m glad for the slower pace but I’m definitely missing all my favorite spots in Calgary. Going to the Farmer’s Market is one of the highlights of my week (I know, it doesn’t take much). But… I can’t help myself, I just get so excited at the abundance of good things to eat surrounding me!
Fall is my favorite season for produce because there’s everything all at once, from pumpkins and apples to heirloom tomatoes and corn.
There’s a florist’s shop right in the market that arranges the most stunning bouquets if you happen to need one of those whilst on holiday.
and croissants (Yum Bakery) – my all time favorite breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
If you’re in the mood for something a bit more substantial, we absolutely love Sliver Sage Burgers! The burgers are made from grass-fed Alberta beef, the buns are homemade, the chipotle mayo is amazing, and… P.S. get the sweet potato fries because they are just that good!
Oh yeah, now that’s a burger! I don’t know how you operate on vacation, but I’m apt to be sampling some of my favorite foods that I can’t always get away with eating on a regular basis. This burger fits the bill – with ultimate juicy beef satisfaction!
If you’re passing through and not in need of any great produce, try The Silk Road Spice Merchant for something more suitcase appropriate. They have all kinds of wonderful spices, some common and some that I’ve never seen before. They also carry a line of their own spice mixes and their spices are always super fresh.
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing one of my favorite places to shop, and here’s to cooking with the abundance of fall produce!
