This Turmeric Morning Glory Smoothie tastes a lot like carrot cake, and has quickly become a breakfast favorite! It’s gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo, and vegan if you leave off the optional bee pollen. It’s the perfect healthy way to start the day with a few servings of both fruit and veggies.

I’ve been mixing up my smoothies quite a bit lately, and it’s been lots of fun! The idea for this one is based on some rather unhealthy morning glory muffins I used to make. (You can find my healthy remake with these Paleo Morning Glory Muffins recipe.)

They had the best warm cinnamony flavor, sort of reminiscent of carrot cake. And I thought those flavors would make for an awesome smoothie, especially when I’m craving something sweet in the morning.

So I went to experimenting a bit, and in no time at all this lightly spiced, creamy – dreamy smoothie became my new breakfast. I’ve also been playing around with adding boosting/superfood ingredients. So turmeric seemed like a good place to start with this sunny yellow smoothie.

I added just a hint so it wouldn’t be bitter, but feel free to add to your taste. I also included some walnuts in there for healthy fats and some optional collagen for protein and general healthy benefits.

All in all, it turned out to be a powerhouse of a smoothie, with all my favorite flavors. What’s more, this smoothie is packed with fruits and veggies and no processed ingredients.

Tips for how to make this Turmeric Morning Glory Smoothie

And if you want to step up your smoothie boosters game even more, you can always try a sprinkle of bee pollen over the top.

All smoothie ingredients added to the blender and ready to go!

Since this smoothie does have carrots in it, a high powered blender will give you the best smoothest texture.

Blended until smooth, a high powered blender really helps with the carrots!

This smoothie is best consumed right away because I’ve found the flavors don’t sit well over time. Something about the carrots and banana together shouldn’t sit in the fridge for hours much less days.

And finally for a presentation tip! To get the swirling pattern along the sides, add a few streaks of coconut milk down the sides of your jars/glasses. Then after you fill the glasses with smoothie, use a toothpick to swirl the coconut milk around the sides of the glasses.

I never bother with that kind of presentation on a normal day. But it’s fun to do for brunches/bridal/baby showers, and Mother’s Day. I guess for pretty much any kind of day where you want things to look a little more special.

    • There are a couple options if you don’t have a high powered blender. First up you can blend the raw carrots with the liquid until it’s as fine as possible but it still may be a little gritty. You can also use cooked carrots although I can’t vouch for the change in flavor. Nutritionally speaking you just get different nutrients with cooked carrots versus raw. I hope this helps and be sure to let me know what you try and how it goes!

  1. I wonder about the lack of pepper which helps your body to derive maximum benefit from the turmeric. I am going to try this it looks so good. On another subject your site made me so home sick! I grew up in the Bitterroot Valley I have lived away from Montana for 46 years and I miss it more than words can express. Appreciate the beauty for me , I’m stuck in Gallup NM.

    • You are definitely right about the pepper, I left it out because I don’t really enjoy it in a sweet smoothie recipe like this, but you could definitely add some! Also always awesome to say hi to a fellow Montanan, and we definitely do our best to enjoy all this area has to offer!

  2. What nut can I use instead of walnuts? They tend to upset my stomach but I want to get the same benefits and similar taste.

    • I don’t know which nuts would have the same benefits as walnuts, but you could try pecans here because I think it would be a good flavor match!
