This DIY Cranberry Orange Lip Balm is easy to make and perfectly festive for homemade holiday gifts!
Ever since I made this Strawberry Vanilla Lip Balm with freeze dried fruit, I’ve been wanting to try out another combo. With the holidays approaching, I thought I’d give it a go with one of my all time favorite combinations – cranberry and orange.
And since I’m really loving this one too, get ready for even more fruity lip balms in the future. Because guess what? I just discovered freeze dried pineapple, so it’s obvious this lip balm craze is going to be continuing!
On that note, if you have any specific requests, be sure and let me know below. I love getting feedback from you. And coming up on a new year, I’d love to know what sorts of DIY’s you’d like to see.

How to make this Cranberry Orange Lip Balm:
- You start by crushing the 1/2 cup of freeze dried berries in a mortar and pestle. You can also powder them in a mini food processor. But if you do use the food processor, let the dust settle for a bit before opening the lid. The mortar and pestle is the easiest way to crush freeze dried fruit into powder if you have one.
- Next you melt the powdered cranberries together with the 2 Tablespoons jojoba oil, 1 Teaspoon vanilla jojoba oil, and 2 Tablespoons coconut oil over low heat.
- Then strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, and add it back to the pan.
- Melt the cranberry infused oil together with 1 Tablespoon + 1 Teaspoon of grated beeswax over low heat, until there are no bits of wax remaining.
- Remove the mixture from the heat, and let it cool for a few minutes. As the mixture begins to set, stir it vigorously to emulsify the cranberry color, otherwise it will sink to the bottom. (See the photo below for what it looks like emulsified.)
- Add the orange essential oil, stir again, then transfer the lip balm to individual containers.
Tip #1: I’ve made lip balms with several freeze dried fruits, and cranberries are the trickiest because you need to make sure you have a fine enough sieve to filter out their seeds. Also don’t rush the crushing process, the finer the powder the better the end result!
Tip #2: You can also add just a touch of beet root powder for color to simplify things, instead of using the cranberries. This is especially helpful if you don’t have a mortar and pestle. I found my beet root powder at our local health food store.

I used 5 containers that are about 1″ across by 1″ deep.
Notes
I find my vanilla jojoba oil at our local health food store. It’s a mixture of vanilla essential oil, (which is very expensive by itself) with jojoba oil as a carrier oil. It’s the best way I’ve found to add vanilla to DIY recipes for an affordable price.
