This Oatmeal Banana Facial Mask is both soothing and moisturizing. It has a wonderfully smoothing effect on my skin. And because it’s so mild, it’s great for sensitive skin types as well.

Oats make a great scrub, cleanser, and mask! I love using them in all sorts of ways for my skin because they’re gentle and soothing to the skin. I started using it as a cleanser with this Oatmeal Cleansing Facial Scrub. It’s just 1 ingredient, although you can add more.

It has a lightly exfoliating effect, and I loved it so much, I started creating more oatmeal facials. Today’s recipe takes advantage of the moisturizing and anti-bacterial properties of honey. Then there’s the lemon juice with has plenty of vitamin C and anti-microbial properties.

And finally there’s the banana which is high in potassium, and helps to moisturize the skin. Some say helps to control oily skin as well. I have noticed this benefit for myself, and personally will never use soap on my oily skin again! (Cleansing by moisturizing, also known as Oil Cleansing, has changed my skin for the better in so many ways.)

Banana is also high in Vitamin A which is considered the ‘beauty vitamin’. So all in all it packs a punch combined with oats for a soothing, smoothing, and moisturizing mask.

And now let’s get started on this simple Oatmeal Banana Facial Mask:

Mashed banana ready to mix into a facial mask!

Step 1:

If you already have oat flour or ground oats on hand, start by mashing the banana, you should have about 2 Tablespoons. If you don’t have oat flour on hand, check out my Oatmeal Cleansing Facial Scrub for how I make my own.

Mixing the oat flour into the banana facial mask!

Step 2:

Next add the lemon juice and honey before stirring in the ground oats.

Step 3:

Let the mask sit at room temperature for around 10 minutes to let it thicken up. Then apply it to your clean face and let it set for 10-15 minutes. As with any homemade treatment, if you feel any discomfort wash it off immediately. Everyone reacts differently to different ingredients.

Important Note: Certain people have had reactions to applying lemon juice to their skin and then being exposed to sunlight. Be sure to wash your facial mask off thoroughly and apply sunscreen if needed depending on your individual situation.

I personally have never had a problem with using lemon juice in small amounts in my facial treatments. But I have heard of it being a problem for some people. Also it bears mentioning I live in the north where the sun isn’t as strong, so I can only speak to my own experience!
