I just got done rinsing this mask off in the shower, and I love how smooth my skin feels right now. I’ve been putting collagen into my green smoothies for the last few months. But it was just recently I thought of putting it into a facial mask as well.
I’m not sure why I’ve never made lotion bars before, but I’m making up for lost time now! They’re even easier to make than homemade lotion because there’s no need to be emulsifying liquid together with oil. Lotion bars are solid, with no liquid ingredients at all, which also makes them incredibly shelf stable.
This recipe actually started out as a turmeric face mask, but that didn’t end very well. I’d been seeing recipes for turmeric face masks everywhere, and they all said something along the lines of ‘try it and see how your face just glows’. Hmmm… try it they said – you’ll glow they said – well let me tell you what, I did glow after using a turmeric facial. The only problem was I was glowing like and Oompa Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!
I’ve always loved the smell of orange and vanilla together. It must go back to my childhood love of creamsicle popsicles and orange sherbet. So I knew I wanted to create a body lotion with those poignant smells in mind. I was also thinking of natural ways to make it a nice golden color, when I finally came up with the idea of adding a calendula tisane to the mix.
